Job Summary:

Carpenters for residential and commercial construct and repair building frameworks and structures such as framing, stairways, doorframes, partitions, and rafters made from wood and other materials. They also may install kitchen cabinets, siding, and drywall.

Carpenter Responsibilities:

  • Follow blueprints and building plans to meet the needs of clients
  • Install structures and fixtures, such as windows and molding
  • Measure, cut, or shape wood, plastic, and other materials
  • Construct building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes
  • Help erect, level, and install building framework with the aid of rigging hardware and cranes
  • Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures
  • Instruct and direct laborers and other construction helpers
  • Carpenters are one of the most versatile construction occupations, with workers usually doing many different tasks.

This is a contract piece work position and you are responsible for your own taxes.

Finish Carpenter

Job Summary:

Under general supervision of designated supervisor, to fabricate and prepare for finishingvarious wood, composition and plastic structures, and fixtures for field installations.

Finish Carpenter Responsibilities:

  • Cut, shape, and assemble wood, composition, and/or plastic sections with shop tools and equipment such as planers, jointers, shaper, routers, sanders, and various power saws.
  • Assemble prepared components for various structures, including chairs, desks, cabinets, bookcases, picture frames, and paneled doors.
  • Prepare structures for finish applications by planing, shaping and sanding; using hand and power tools.
  • Read and interpret plans, sketches, and shop drawings for milling and fabrication.
  • Prepare materials estimates as directed by supervisor.
  • Determine type and dimensions of wood stock to be used.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and work area.
  • May perform work of carpenter as assigned.
  • May act as Lead Carpenter in absence of Lead Carpenter or Supervisor.
  • May direct work of student workers as assigned.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Job Description:

Electricians install, maintain and repair electrical systems in houses, factories, businesses and other places. They make sure that electrical systems are safe and running efficiently, and repair electrical equipment. Electricians are there during construction to install and test new equipment and systems, and come to repair or maintain older, pre-existing systems.

Master Electrician Requirements:

  • Color Vision: Master electricians work with colored wiring and must be able to identify them by sight.
  • Troubleshooting: Master electricians must be able to find the root cause of issues and think logically about solutions.
  • Customer Service: Master electricians often work for many different customers, and must be friendly when working on site.
  • Critical Thinking: When diagnosing problems, Master electricians must think critically in their process of repairing the issue.
  • Mechanical Skills: Master electricians read blueprints and schematics and use an array of tools and diagnostic devices to service and install electrical parts.

Job Summary:

Professional painters prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces. They may work on residential or commercial properties. Job duties for professional painters include removing old paint, priming surfaces, choosing materials, selecting and mixing colors and cleaning up job sites. These individuals may also be responsible for managing employees, handling finances and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Painter Responsibilities:

  • Painters begin by preparing surfaces for painting.
  • This may require removing old paint, filling holes and washing walls.
  • Sandpaper, wire brushes, scrapers and abrasive blasting may be used to prepare a surface. Holes and divots are filled with putty, plaster or caulk.
  • Painters must also ensure that surfaces are not susceptible to moisture by sealing
  • cracks and corners where building materials meet.
  • After a surface is clean and ready for paint, professional painters apply primer.
  • Primer selection is based on the location and type of surface being finished.
  • Painters must apply primer and paint at the appropriate spread rate and temperature in order to ensure the best results.
  • Painters must have knowledge of color theory.
  • While color selection is ultimately up to the customer, painters must be able to advise clients and understand how to create the appearance their customers seek.
  • They may use varnish, oil or paint additives to derive specific colors and textures.
  • They may also use special techniques to provide decorative and faux finishes.
  • These finishes often require the use of washes, glazes and layering.

Licensed Plumber

Job Summary:

Coordinate, execute, maintain, repair and install all types of plumbing equipment, domestic water systems, sewer systems, and related devices. Perform preventative maintenance (PM) programs, inspections and repairs; respond to emergency plumbing calls and maintain and repair all natural gas services including valves. Must have Master Plumber License.

Licensed Plumber Responsibilities:

  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing and welding equipment.
  • Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
  • Review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
  • Prepare written work cost estimates and negotiate contracts.
  • Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions such as electrical wiring.
  • Keep records of assignments and produce detailed work reports.
  • Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
  • Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers and water heaters, and fixtures such as sinks and toilets, using hand and power tools.
  • Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
  • Hang steel supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing, replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, and opening clogged drains.
  • Direct workers engaged in pipe cutting and pre-assembly and installation of plumbing systems and components.
  • Install underground storm, sanitary and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to these systems.
  • Use specialized techniques, equipment, or materials, such as performing computer-assisted welding of small pipes, or working with the special piping used in microchip fabrication

Licensed Roofer

Job Summary

Performs roofing and repairs on various types of roofs, and provides on-site leadership to other roofers.

Lead Roofer Responsibilities:

  • Inspects roofs; determines repairs needed and estimates jobs.
  • Monitors work of contractors and inspects completed jobs.
  • Installs new roofs to include shingle, built-up, and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) systems.
  • Repairs all types of roofing systems.
  • Supervises the work of employees in supporting roles, including assigning workload and monitoring employee performance.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Prepares written reports on roof conditions.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Be a licensed roofer.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified

Job Summary:

The Estimator is a critical position within Veteran Handyman & Construction. Estimators are responsible for the first touch with the potential customer, therefore first impressions and congeniality is a must, furthermore they take accurate measurements, evaluate bid specifications and drawings, ensure that we know everything required to successfully bid and win the project. Estimators must aggressively follow-up with subcontractors to ensure that bids are received. Estimators also work with the Project Management teams to follow-up on bids and budgets to close the business.

Estimator Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and maintains status of plan reproduction.
  • Solicits and maintains communication with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Prepares subcontractor bid packages.
  • Transmits agenda and other bid information to subcontractors.
  • Ensures that we have the proper coverage from subcontractors on bid day.
  • Contacts supply houses to obtain additional subcontractor bids.
  • Shows creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from subcontractors.
  • Submits 100% of bids and budgets by the bid deadline.
  • Develop creative solutions to problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must know preferably Apple Pages, Numbers, Keynote or Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Project.
  • Must be self-motivated & punctual.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow up skills both internally and externally.
  • Must be professional and polished in appearance and speech.

Job Summary:

CAD or Sketchup are the primary way in which drafters develop plans, drawings and sketches. Using AutoCAD software, created by Autodesk Inc., drafters prepare a visual depiction of a product to be constructed. Production and construction workers, including engineers, surveyors, architects and scientists, use CAD images to create plans to build and manufacture everything from buildings to toys to spacecraft. CAD drafters also have a working knowledge of traditional drafting methods.

AutoCAD or Sketchup Drafter Duties:

  • There are many specialty areas in drafting, such as aeronautical, architectural, electrical and mechanical drafting.
  • Drafters use CAD or Sketchup software to produce detailed drawings that include building dimensions, required materials and construction procedures.
  • They use multiple angles and views to depict the association of components and systems. Drafters often consult with coworkers on design and layouts.
  • In some cases, drafters coordinate with builders to establish requirements and understand design concepts.
  • When deficiencies occur, drafters revise designs to eliminate problems.
  • Entry-supervisors.

AutoCAD or Sketchup Drafter Requirements:

  • Most drafters complete postsecondary training through a technical school or community college, which usually offer 1-year or 2-year programs in the field.
  • Since few 4-year degree programs in drafting exist, drafters who want to pursue bachelor’s degrees may major in a related field, such as engineering, architecture or mathematics.
  • Technical school training is typically focused on the specific skills necessary for drafting, while community colleges require more general education courses in addition to drafting classes.

Virtual Assistant


Job Summary:

Responsible for laying brick, tile or stone and smoothing out, leveling and finishing freshly poured concrete at job or construction sites.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lays building materials, such as brick, structural tile, and concrete cinder, glass, gypsum, and terra cotta block to construct or repair walls, partitions, arches, sewers, and other structures: Measures distance from reference points and marks guidelines on working surface to lay out work.
  • Spreads soft bed of mortar that serves as base and binder for block, using trowel.
  • Applies mortar to end of block and positions block in mortar bed.
  • Taps block with trowel to level, align, and embed in mortar, allowing specified thickness of joint.
  • Removes excess mortar from face of block, using trowel.
  • Finishes mortar between brick with pointing tool or trowel.
  • Breaks bricks to fit spaces too small for whole brick, using edge of trowel or brick hammer.
  • Determines vertical and horizontal alignment of courses, using plumb bob, gauge line, and level.
  • Fastens brick or terra cotta veneer to face of structures, with tie wires embedded in mortar between bricks, or in anchor holes in veneer brick.
  • May weld metal parts to steel structural members.
  • May apply plaster to walls and ceiling, using trowel, to complete repair work.
